About Nik

Life can feel chaotic and overwhelming, and feeling like that can prevent you from more fulfilling experiences and keep you from reaching your full potential.  Perhaps you are here because something is bothering you, you wish something was different or better about your life, or you are struggling with the way you feel (struggling with things that are important to you).  Yet you have some hope that things can get better, even if it’s not clear how.  You have already taken the first step by looking at options for guidance.  This shows that you are capable of taking action, and you recognize your own ability to grow as a person.

As a social worker I am trained to understand you as a unique and individual person.  I am also trained to examine the context of your narrative, the environment around you, and the various systems you interact with.  Situating your story within the world you live in provides rich detail and a deeper understanding of your own experiences, and your own personal journey.  I am passionate about helping people grow, evolve, and thrive.  I am compelled to alleviate suffering and to replace it with a sense peace-of-mind and well-being.  My approach is rooted in critical theory and the strengths perspective, which recognizes that each person has great potential, capability, and inherent value.  You have strengths within you, and they are powerful.  Discovering how to use your strengths can be transformative and life-changing.

I have been licensed since 2013 to practice therapy in both Kansas and Missouri.  I have worked with a wide range of clients in many different settings including residential facilities, shelters, and medical settings such as hospitals and emergency rooms.  I have published about many different mental health topics, including several peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, a book chapter, and 5 peer-reviewed national conference presentations.

I grew up in Kansas City, but I have been fortunate to be able to travel and experience many different countries and cultures.  My experiences abroad have expanded my empathy and and awareness of how our differences make us all the same.

Whether you are healing from pain, suffering from loss, feeling overwhelmed, or you cannot find words to express what or how you are feeling, I am here to show you that there is hope and there is a way to make things better.  As you grow along life’s journey, give yourself permission to have guidance and support.   Allow yourself to be heard, to be empowered, and to be refreshed.  We will walk together on your path and we will find relief, more peace of mind, and well-being.
